More of June 2008

We LOVE the produce that comes with summer!
I wish I could visit my grandparents in South Carolina and taste some goodness from their garden!

Maybe a butternut squash?
At the Arboretum in the kitchen garden outside one of the pioneer homes.

A three year old in action ...

Mom and I enjoyed a nice Tuesday visit to the Arboretum a couple of weeks ago.  We felt like we had the whole place to ourselves!  Simon was having fun exploring the pioneer village, and we rarely saw any other children.

Mom commented that it looked like it might rain that day ...

As we leisurely took in the grounds, Matt happened to call my cell phone.  He very sweetly informed me that a very, very big thunderstorm was headed our way!  I thought that was really kind of him.  So, we headed to "shelta" as Simon said.  What a southerner!
We made it there just before the skies opened!

Asleep during the storm.
There's a parable in their somewhere.

He was excited to see all the bamboo.  He knows his daddy loves bamboo, so Simon has decided he loves it as well!

Simon hitting the wall was making Evie Grace laugh so much!

Simon took this picture!

Evie doesn't "fall asleep" in my arms much, usually she is put in her crib awake!  So, this was quite a treat for me and I had a hard time "letting her go."

O tell of His might, O sing of His grace,
Whose robe is the light, whose canopy space.
Whose chariots of wrath the deep thunderclouds form
And dark is His path on the wings of the storm.

Thy bountiful care, what tongue can recite?
It breathes in the air; it shines in the light.
It streams from the hills; it descends to the plain,
And sweetly distills in the dew and the rain.

Frail children of dust, and feeble as frail,
In thee do we trust, nor find thee to fail.
Thy mercies how tender, how firm to the end,
Our Maker, Defender, Redeemer, and Friend.

Looking for the big toad that Matt had discovered earlier that day ...

Simon, what do you want to be when you grow up?
His answer:  A family.
(More specifically, he wants to be a workman AND a hunter)

Gabriel and The Toad.

Matt's department was over here last Saturday.
An important discovery was made, courtesy of the Bales family.
Cereal on Ice-Cream tastes amazing!  Like eating a cone!
They made homemade vanilla ice-cream and lamented their forgotten Rice Krispies which are apparently the best on ice-cream.  We had Kix, though, and it was yummy as an ice-cream topper!

Gigi and Evie Grace enjoying some time outside.

The Fam, in part.
Matt and Scott are on the roof.

Having fun AND being productive.

Why does Uncle Matt love bamboo?
It was fun seeing you at Braum's on Saturday. How was your home church? And did you make lemonade?
